Grace Presbyterian Church Phased Reopening Plan-July 12, 2020

On July 12, 2020, the Session of Grace Presbyterian Church met and authorized the following phased reopening plan which is effective from August 1, 2020 until December 31, 2020.  These dates and guidelines do not reflect a guaranteed safe environment but do promote as safe of an environment as the church can ensure and aids in the process of resuming regular church activities.  

1.  All persons, staff, volunteers, and visitors, using the church do so at their own risk, understanding there is a

     possibility for cross contamination and potential sickness.

          a.  Staff will be given flexibility for safe working conditions at the discretion of the Head of Staff, as needed.

          b.  Anyone who enters Grace Presbyterian Church, staff or otherwise, may be subject to a temperature

               screening and verbal background check by a staff person or church member which would be determined   

               on a day by day, event by event basis.

 

2.  The church can be closed during the week (Monday – Friday) by the Head of Staff if deemed necessary – this

     does not include the preschool who is under the direction of the preschool board. 

          a.  Sundays, which include worship, must be a Session decision for closing.

 

3.  The session is prepared to suspend in person worship in the church and church activities at any time, for

     whatever amount of time is needed (a minimum of 21 days and at least 3 Sundays), if a Covid -19 case is made

     public by a person who enters Grace Presbyterian Church.

 

4.  Outside groups, less than 50 people, may use the church but are limited to the 200 Wing and Bell Hall.  Groups

      over 50 people must have Session approval to use the church.

          a.  All groups are responsible for cleaning/sanitizing the space they use before and after use.

               i.  These groups must provide their own cleaning supplies.

         b.  Groups must enter and exit via Bell Hall unless they are unable to do so because of another group.

         c.  Groups may only go as far as the end of the 200-wing hall to use the restrooms.

         d.  Groups will be required to keep an attendance sheet each time they meet in the church for possible

              contact tracing.

         e.  Each individual will sign-in on the attendance sheet to acknowledge they are using the church at their own 

              risk and that Grace assumes no risk for a person getting sick.

 

5.  Groups from inside the church (formed by Grace Presbyterian Church) may use any part of the church excluding

      the Sanctuary.

         a.  Groups are responsible for cleaning/sanitizing any space they use before and after use.

         b.  Groups must enter and exit via Bell Hall unless they are unable to do so because of another group.

         c.  Groups will be required to keep an attendance sheet each time they meet in the church for possible

              contact tracing.

              i.  Each individual will sign-in on the attendance sheet to acknowledge they are using the church at their

                  own risk and that Grace assumes no risk for a person getting sick.

 

6.  The Head of Staff, in consultation with the Chair of Service has the authority to ask a group to suspend use of

     the church facilities if deemed necessary for any reason.

 

7.  A nursery will be provided on Sunday mornings and children’s church will be decided by the Youth Director on a

     weekly basis until after Labor Day 2020.

 

8.  Wonderful Wednesdays may resume after Labor Day 2020 – September 9, 2020.

 

9.  Sunday morning will be worship only until at 10:30am (No Sunday morning Sunday School until after Labor Day

     2020 – beginning September 13, 2020).

         a.  Those in worship will be asked to wear a mask and keep their mask on during all of worship.

               i.  Anyone showing signs of sickness, for any reason, may be asked to isolate, away from others.

         b.  No one will be refused entry to worship – all assume the risk of getting sick by attending.

         c.  Those in worship will be asked to practice safe distancing, at their best discretion, under the guidance in

              sitting in the sanctuary as set by the church.

         d.  A modified worship will be used until further notice, which will include no congregational singing.

         e.  There will be no choir in worship until further notice.  This will be looked at by the Session at Stated   

              Session Meetings.

         f.  Communion will be offered on the first Sunday of each month.

               i.  Congregants will pick up prepacked communion packs upon entering worship and partake from those

              elements.

         g.  Offering will be done by allowing individuals to place their offering in a plate on the way out of worship.

              i.  Plates will be placed on tables at each door of the sanctuary in the Narthex.

         h.  A Session member greeter will stand near the entryway of the church with a mask on directing people

              where to go until further notice.

              i.  A Session member greeter will stand near the stairs to the balcony in the narthex with a mask on to

                  assist members and visitors until further notice.

              ii.  This Session member greeter will encourage no gathering in the narthex until further notice.

         i.  Bulletins will be placed on a table in the entryway of the narthex for people to pick up their own.

         j.  There will be no encouraged hand shaking or touching until further notice.

        k.  There will be no elder in the pulpit until further notice – to be decided by the Head of Staff.

10.  Grace Cares is allowed to function on a full basis based on what the Grace Cares volunteers deem as the safest

        and best practices to proceed.

         a.  The Director of Grace Cares along with the Head of Staff and those involved with the financial part of Grace

              Cares will have the discretion for choosing when and how to resume financial assistance.

 

11.  The preschool will be allowed to open for the regular school year on their regularly scheduled date with the

       preschool board giving direction for how to proceed.

 

12.  Cleaning of the church will be done as regularly scheduled.

         a.  Cleaning, however, will include, if available, spraying the sanctuary and any other regularly used spaces

              with a disinfectant each week by the cleaning staff until further notice.
